definitions of antisemitism

Definitions over time

We compare the definitions of antisemitism in our list by the year each was issued, using the 30 features we coded in every text (listed under Features of definitions). We also recorded which earlier definitions each text adopts, adapts, extends, answers or cites, in the words of the text itself.

Features by period

Each cell counts the definitions issued in that period that name the feature, out of all the definitions issued in the period, with the bar drawn to the share. Choose Scholars only or All but scholars to compare definitions written by the same kind of author.

Which definitions build on which

Each arc joins a definition to an earlier definition in the list that it names, and the colour gives the relation the coder recorded. Definitions are spaced evenly in the order they were issued, with the year below. Hover over a dot to see its links.

Definitions placed by their features

A multiple correspondence analysis places each definition on a plane so that definitions with the same features sit close together and definitions that differ sit far apart. It uses only the features that at least two definitions name. The horizontal axis follows the largest difference among the definitions, and the vertical axis the next largest.

First axis by year

Each dot is a definition, placed by the year it was issued and by its position on the horizontal axis of the plane above. Hover over a dot for its name.
